4 Ways to Captivate Kids with Interior Design

Jewel Toned InteriorsBlog

With back-to-school in full force most parents are filled with thoughts of how to advance their children in the best way possible.  One of the easiest ways to do this is to consider them in how you furnish your home.  Below are four design ideas for children that are easily executed and will make your kids feel as if they are an integral part of the family unit.

My children are both under the age of six so these suggestions are driven to children of a younger age, although some of them apply to kids of all ages!

1.       Kid sized furniture provides seating options for your smallest family members

There should be at least one furniture setting that is ergonomic for children.  IKEA makes a great set for $24.99 so there is no excuse not to have one.  These little settings invite kids to sit down and create.

2.       Incorporate their artwork into your decor

Integrate their creations into your home’s interior artwork by either creating new pieces with them (we have a pinterest board that is full of ideas!) or use their past work in frames or on display.

    3.       Provide areas for your kids to play outside.

Select non-sharp furniture that can be easily washed and allows for flexibility.  Have dedicated play areas for them so that when the adults are outside they can join in on the fun.

4.       Have a garden that they have complete access to use.

Plant sunflowers with your kids in the summer, they are exciting to watch grow.  Pick flowers to decorate the guest rooms whenever you have visitors.  Your guests will feel even more welcomed and your kids will learn a lesson in hospitality.

I hope this list inspires you with ways that you can make your home even more special to the children that live there.  If you have additional ideas please leave them in the comments below.  I look forward to hearing some new ideas!
