Healthcare Center - New Build
SQUARE FOOTAGE: 15,000
MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA
Projects that serve the community are near and dear to our hearts and the Barbara J. Jordan Community Health & Wellness Center fits that bill! Originally conceptualized in 2016 by our team in collaboration with the client’s in-house architect, Rebeca Kanakis, and architectural consultants Modis Architects, seeing this project come to fruition before the end of 2021 was an incredibly fulfilling moment!
Nature fueled this design concept, and each discipline within the center is designed around a unique aspect of nature. The lobby offers a conglomeration of many facets, reinforced by a quadrant design both at eye level and above in the ceiling’s design. The JTI team provided both Interior Design and Graphic Design services, designing every wayfinding aspect located within the building.
Family medicine takes on elements of EARTH with textured walls in the lobby. The corridors are peppered with images of warm, rocky terrains. Nearby, the OB-GYN lobby embodies elements of AIR in a light and bright space. Ethereal pendants suspend overhead and art is soft and breezy to calm incoming patients.
Next is pediatrics, inspired by the whimsical aspects of WATER life under the sea. The lobby combines blue swirls of movement underfoot with an inverse of these colors occurring on most walls. A blue focal wall houses a coral-shaped bookcase to hold toys, games, and books for young patients. The final discipline under this JTCHS roof is dental, representing PLANT LIFE. Primary walls of the lobby are wrapped in an oversized floral wallcovering while artwork offers a close-up variety of botanicals throughout the dental spaces.
A multi-functional space is located in the rear of the building, with another nod to WATER, in chandeliers of metallic bubbles above and a rippling carpet pattern below. Wooden waves along the walls add warmth while breaking up large walls within this expansive space. The outdoor corridor includes aerial shots that combine the many aspects of nature, offering a transitional space both visually and physically.
When meeting Barbara J. Jordan, the Miami Gardens commissioner that the center was named after, I was so honored to hear that she feels like each space embodies a sense of joy, as that was our vision from the get-go. Our hope is for it to serve this community in health and wellness for many years to come.
