I’ve been involved in CREW over the past four years, specifically the Fort Lauderdale/Boca Raton Chapter and I’m excited to announce that next year I have the opportunity to be President Elect and the President! For those unfamiliar with CREW, it stands for Commercial Real Estate Women. The organization is dedicated to advancing women globally while transforming the commercial real estate industry. Although the organization name is geared towards women, anyone can join! Each CREW chapter provides gatherings of influential individuals in the commercial real estate industry. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know such an inspiring group.
In addition, CREW’s Global Network hosts summits throughout the year. Before COVID, they were large, well attended events held in various US cities. I heard they were amazing! Given our current circumstances, this past Winter summit was held via zoom. Even though it wasn’t face-to-face, I had the chance to connect with members around the world through our chats and breakout sessions.
This year’s summit focused on exchanging ideas and stories on what chapters have done well offering training for leadership within the industry. My favorite part of the summit was the training by Valerie D’Costa on Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and how to deepen our awareness of implicit bias, learning tools to address this bias in our community. Even though these types of conversations may make us uneasy, we all need to start getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
This topic is very important to me so I’ve started a DEI committee within our chapter. If you’re interested in becoming a part of CREW or if you’re already a member and are interested in being on our DEI committee, please email me at email@example.com. I’d love to grab a coffee together and continue this necessary conversation!
